I joined P4P  because Social Justice is my chief concern.  I want a Jewish State, but one based on Justice.

Since Occupation and oppression do not represent my Jewish values. I wanted to work together with Arabs   to build bridges  of respect and understanding

I was living in Israel when the second Intifada broke out in October 2000. The Palestinian violence really caught Israelis off guard and shook up our belief in the peace process. I really had no idea why the Palestinians were so angry and faced with such violence and hatred, you come to the conclusion that violence is a way of life on the other side and there is no one to speak to. At the time, I had to simply ignore what was going on in the Territories because it was too overwhelming and too difficult to understand. After some time in Canada I decided I had to know what went wrong with Oslo . How could it be that on one side of the border we think everything is going well and on the other side, hatred and anger is brewing? I came to P4P to find out what it is I didn ' t know about Palestinians because ultimately we will have to live together.

I have joined upon the favourable opinion of the founder of P4P, Dr. Qais Ghanem. I was born in Syria  and have fond memories of my Jewish friends who grew up with me. These Syrian Jews were people who practiced their religion and spoke Hebrew as well as Arabic, but did not view or interpret Judaism as the basis to migrate to, or to support the newly
established State of Israel.
After migrating to Canada at the age of 23, I have always been curious as to why Jews in Canada invoke religion to justify the colonization and uprooting of the Palestinian people from their homeland.
Humankind ought to have learned the lessons of History. Religion invariably, brought nothing to human societies except calamities and divisiveness, when it is supposed to be the source of moral enlightenment and ethical conduct.

I thought that our community is too supportive of hard-line approach to the conflict. I was frequently told "There is no one to talk to. They hate us." @ a P4P g.t. I met people from the other community who also believe the conflict can only be resolved by negotiation between parties who recognize that the different understandings of historical justice & the needs of each must be acknowledged & respected.

My whole life I've been hearing about the struggle of the Jews in Israel. I just wanted to blend in, to NOT hear ANYTHING about Jews as a group. After 9/11 I felt a sick feeling in my gut for a long time. I needed to try to understand why this happened and to do something to help reduce the likelihood that something like this would happen again. When Rhona told me about the group I thought this would be a beginning. I refuse to see Arabs as my enemies. I refuse to allow Canada to be polluted with our two groups hating each other here. I've experienced many times that sharing food can bring people together. I believe that change is possible in the Middle East.

I joined the group after my friend Tyseer spoke with me about it. I am glad she did.
