Speakers Biographies

Anne Goodman


Anne Goodman comes from South Africa where she was active in the anti-apartheid struggle. Anne graduated with a PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) in 1995, focusing on education in the context of our current global situation. Since that time, she has been teaching in both formal and non-formal settings. She has taught peace studies through McMaster University's Centre for Peace Studies for several years and in 2002-3 was Distinguished Visiting Professor at Menno Simons College, University of Winnipeg. She is presently an Assistant Professor in the Adult Education and Community Development (AECP) program at OISE. She is the Director of the Transformative Learning Centre of OISE and coordinator of Peace and Human Rights Education. She has taught courses through the Summer Institute for several years and worked on the planning of several TLC conferences, including the recent Spirit Matters conference. She is co-author of a book inspired by the
Spirit Matters conference entitled,

“Circles of Transformation”

 

 

Samah Sabawi

Samah Sabawi is a Human Rights and Social Justice advocate.  She was born in Gaza in 1967, shortly after her birth her family was displaced as a result of Israel's occupation of the Gaza Strip.  Although she has lived and worked in many countries around the world, including Australia, Tunis, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Egypt before finally settling in Canada, she still has strong ties to her place of birth - ties that have shaped her work and her identity.
